JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Lehigh women’s volleyball team notched another victory on Tuesday, knocking off St. Francis (N.Y.), 3-0, in its second match of the St. Peter’s Tri-Match.  The win came after Lehigh lost its first match of the day against St. Peter’s in three sets.

Lehigh head coach Jenny Maurer said the style of play in Jersey City, N.J. was slower than it had been in Pittsburgh over the weekend.  The Mountain Hawks spent the first match trying to adjust to the pace, and it showed on the scoreboard.

Against St. Francis, Lehigh decided to play more of its own fast-paced style, something that was more common last weekend.

“We were just much more focused on our own goals and our own style of play,” Maurer said.  “We were playing more like a team again.”

Instead of dwelling on the tough loss, the Mountain Hawks battled back in the second match, winning handily.  They pulled out big wins in the first two sets, by scores of 25-11 in both.  Maurer also got the chance to go to her bench and give some of her newer players some more experience in the third set and her young players clinched the victory with a 25-22 third-set win.

Lehigh bounced back with a much crisper second match, limiting the errors and the defense helped the Brown and White create offensive opportunities.  Haley Conklin played well in the back line for the Mountain Hawks, racking up 10 digs in the second match, and the servers chipped in with eight aces to help limit the St. Francis offense.

“We were glad to see them gain their composure,” Maurer said.  “I think it showed some resiliency for them to move forward and play so well in the second match.”

Complete statistics will be provided on Lehighsports.com when they become available.

Lehigh volleyball now has nine days off before it plays host to three teams in the Crosstown Tourney at Leeman-Turner Arena.  The Mountain Hawks will take on Quinnipiac on September 12, before challenging both Coppin State and Marist on September 13.
