The Mountain Hawks enjoyed an early 3-0 lead after winning the doubles point and the first two flights of singles, but the feisty Colonials battled back to capture three straight matches, setting up the winner take all third set, which Collins took to give Lehigh the victory.

The win snaps Lehigh’s four match losing streak and improves the Mountain Hawks to 6-12 on the season. Robert Morris falls to 4-9 in spring action.

Lehigh won two of the three doubles flights to take an early 1-0 lead. Senior John Nespoli and freshman Troy List cruised to an 8-0 win over Pinto and Cyrus Manouchehrian; and after a loss at No. 2 singles, senior Brent Herbert and sophomore Rob Bolcar won 8-5 at No. 3 doubles to give the Brown and White the first point of the match.

The lead quickly ballooned to 3-0 as Nespoli earned a commanding 6-1, 6-0 win over Ryan Cameron at No. 1 singles, and List downed Nick Paganetti 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.

Needing just one point to clinch the match, freshmen Arnaldo Pacheco and Cameron Silbert dropped their matches in straight sets at fourth and sixth singles respectively. Robert Morris tied the game when Mateusz Wodzinski outlasted J.T. Bolcar in three sets.

In the deciding match at No. 5 singles, Collins won the first set and had several match points in the second, but dropped the second set in a tiebreak. In the third, Collins rallied from 6-5 down to force the tiebreak, which he outlasted Pinto to clinch the victory for the Mountain Hawks.

The Mountain Hawks will need a sharper performance on Thursday when they travel to Easton to face arch rival Lafayette at 3 p.m. Lehigh has won the last three meetings over the Leopards, and the winner of Thursday’s match will have the upper hand on the No. 5 seed in the upcoming Patriot League tournament.
