Mountain Hawks upended by Bucknell 6-1

All three doubles matches were tightly contested. Bucknell picked up a win at No. 2 doubles, then clinched the first point when Mark Malloy and Ben Young knocked off sophomores J.T. and Robbie Bolcar 8-6 at No. 3 doubles. Lehigh did muster a doubles win as senior John Nespoli and freshman Troy List rallied to beat Ira Reibeisen and Ryan Sandburg 8-6 at first doubles.
The young Mountain Hawks needed to win four singles matches to take the match, but the visiting Bison picked up quick straight set victories at No. 6 and No. 3 singles. Bucknell clinched the match when Anton Kovic overcame a 4-1 second set deficit to defeat junior Mike Gordon 6-2, 6-4 at fifth singles.
The final three matches were all tightly contested. Nespoli overcame a sluggish start with a strong second set, but fell to Reibeisen 6-1, 7-5 at first singles. At No. 2 List dropped the first set but rallied to win the second over Sandburg, before falling 10-3 in a third set tiebreak.
Lehigh’s lone singles win came from freshman Arnaldo Pacheco, who dropped a close first set to John Brenner 7-5, but rallied to take the second set 7-6. Pacheco won his third set tiebreak 10-7 to prevent the Mountain Hawks from being shut out.
The Mountain Hawks will be back on the courts on Saturday when they travel to defending Patriot League champion Navy. First serve set for 1 p.m. from
