KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Lehigh wrapped up play at the Rebel Spring Games with a pair of wins over IPFW and Detroit by identical 13-7 scores on Friday. The Mountain Hawks came from behind to win the opener, and then plated eight runs in the first two innings to win Friday’s second game. Lehigh finishes the Rebel Spring Games with a 9-1 record, and is now 13-1 overall this season.

In Friday morning’s first game versus the Mastodons of IPFW, Lehigh used a six run fourth inning to turn a 7-3 deficit into a 9-7 lead. Sophomore Amy Piccinich led the offensive assault, going 3-for-5 with a run scored and a couple RBI.

Sophomore Danielle Clark started in the circle for Lehigh, and gave way to freshman Bri Gaumer in the third inning. Junior Lisa Sweeney took over in the fourth and was dominant, striking out 11 of the 12 batters she faced to earn the win and improve to 7-0 on the season.

In the nightcap, Lehigh defeated Detroit for the third time this week, plating a pair of runs in the first inning, and adding six more in the second. In the circle, sophomore Tiffany Curtis threw the first six innings, working around several unearned runs to pick up the victory. Curtis is now 5-1 on the season. Sweeney relieved Curtis in the seventh and struck out the side in a non-save situation.

The Mountain Hawks will return to action on Friday, March 14 at the Maryland Spring Break Classic in College Park, Md. Lehigh will face UMBC at 9 a.m. and Valparaiso, the only team to defeat Lehigh this season, at 1 p.m. Friday’s games will be broadcast on Lehighsports.com with streaming audio powered by Yahoo!
