Mountain Hawks upended by Niagara 4-3

3/15/2008 6:30:00 PM | Men's Tennis

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh returned to the court for the first time in ten days, but the Mountain Hawks let an early lead slip away as Niagara rallied for a 4-3 win Saturday inside the Lewis Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks earned the doubles point, but won only two of six singles contests as they fall to 3-5 on the season.

Things started well for the Brown and White as freshmen Arnaldo Pacheco and Cameron Silbert won 8-3 over Collin Laffey and Steve Kopf at No. 3 doubles, and the duo of senior John Nespoli and freshman Troy List won 9-78 over Marc Dickinson and Roman Silin at No. 1 doubles to give Lehigh a 1-0 edge.

Singles play was not as kind to the Mountain Hawks, as only List and freshman Chris Collins came away with victories. List needed three sets to defeat Alex Abji 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 singles, while Collins downed Joe Heckley 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6 singles. Niagara earned wins at the other four flights to deny Lehigh head coach Dave Shook his 200th win as Lehigh’s men’s head coach.

The Mountain Hawks will return to action on Tuesday when they welcome Delaware to the Lewis Tennis Center for a match that begins at 4 p.m.
