ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The 2008 Patriot League Championships came to a conclusion Saturday night at Navy’s Lejeune Hall. Lehigh totaled three silver medals on the final day of competition as the Mountain Hawk men placed fourth overall, while the women placed fifth. Junior Dan Johnson posted his third top-two finish of the championships, while senior Jon Kearney and junior Melanie Rolish added second place finishes for the Brown and White.

Navy’s men’s team captured its fifth straight team title; while the Colgate women passed Navy on day two and held on to claim their first title.

For Lehigh, Johnson earned his third podium finish of the weekend, tying for second in the 100 yard freestyle. His time of 45.66 seconds tied Navy’s Alex Buck for second and was three hundredths of a second off the school record. Navy’s Alex Oldenkamp edged the duo out for the title as he did Thursday in the 50 free.

Kearney placed second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:51.42. Rolish posted the top individual women’s finish of the championships, touching the wall in 2:21.59 to earn silver in the 200 yard breaststroke.

On the women’s side, Lehigh placed a pair in the top six in the grueling 1650 yard freestyle, with freshman Lauren Kindrick finishing fourth with a time of 17:29.52. Sophomore Allison Rolish placed sixth. The Mountain Hawks continued to fare well in B finals, as sophomore Laure Eull took the nine team points in the 200 backstroke with a ninth place finish in 2:08.02. In the final women’s event of the championships, Lehigh placed fourth in the 400 free relay.

In other men’s competition, sophomore Kevin McGrath reached the finals in the 200 breast, finishing eighth with a time of 2:07.40. Freshman Billy Dunne won the B final in the 200 back to finish ninth in 1:53.53. Senior Clark Cohen placed fifth in the men’s three meter dive, while the 400 free relay team earned a bronze medal.

Both Lehigh teams equaled their finish from last year’s championships. The men finished 10.5 points ahead of fifth place Colgate to place fourth for the third straight year. The women finished 24 points ahead of Army, which beat the Mountain Hawks in a dual meet last month. Johnson was Lehigh’s lone titlist, winning the men’s 200 yard freestyle on Friday.
