Lehigh returns home to face VMI on Kids Day

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh returns home Saturday afternoon to host the Keydets of VMI at Goodman Stadium on Kids Day.  The Mountain Hawks defeated Princeton last weekend underneath the lights in New Jersey by a score of 32-21 as the freshmen running back duo of Kwesi Kankam and Jaren Walker combined for 132 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while the Lehigh “D” forced five turnovers and limited the Tigers to just 69 offensive plays.  VMI meanwhile, comes to Bethlehem searching for its first win since the opening weekend of the season.  The Keydets have dropped two straight contests to a pair of tough Colonial Athletic Association foes, (William & Mary, James Madison) and will be playing their second of three straight road games.

The Keydets come to Bethlehem this weekend in search of their first victory since the opening week of the season.  VMI has lost its last two games to a pair of strong Colonial Athletic Association foes, and is playing its second of three consecutive road contests.  VMI finished the 2006 season with a record of 1-10 and has not won a road game since October 1, 2005.  On offense, the Keydets are fueled by a strong rushing attack that averages 266 yards per contest, led by Howard Abegesah’s 94.3 per game average.

Junior Jason Leo’s rugby style punts have caught the eyes of many, but no one can question their effectiveness.  Through two games, Leo is averaging 43.1 yards per punt (seventh in America) with a long of 65.  He has pinned six of those kicks inside of the opponents’ 20-yard line, including five versus Princeton.  Leo’s punts have made it nearly impossible for any type of return as opponents are averaging -0.5 yards per return.

Saturday’s game kicks off at 1:07 from Goodman Stadium.  Tickets are still available and can be purchased in one of three ways: by calling 610-7LU-GAME, by visiting the Lehigh Athletics Ticket Office located in Grace Hall or by logging onto Lehighsports.com at anytime.
