VILLANOVA, Pa. – Freshman Tiffany Curtis tossed a complete game four-hit shutout to lead Lehigh to a 2-0 win over Villanova Tuesday in the second game of a doubleheader at Villanova Softball Field. Sheri Donley hit a sixth inning solo home run to lead the Wildcats to a 2-1 victory in game one. With the game one loss, Lehigh’s 10 game winning streak comes to an end as the Mountain Hawks now stand at 31-16-1 on the season, while Villanova is now 22-22-1.

Curtis allowed just four singles and did not walk a batter, while striking out four Wildcats as she improved to 11-7 on the season.

Lehigh took an early lead in the top of the first inning on a sacrifice fly from senior Lauren Haney, which scored junior Kate Marvel. The RBI was Haney’s league-leading 38th of the year. The Mountain Hawks added an insurance run in the seventh as junior Taryn Hanley drilled a two out home run to left field, her third long ball of the season.

In the opener, Lehigh out hit Villanova 6-5, but the Mountain Hawks left ten runners on base. Senior Julie Sterrett game Lehigh a 1-0 lead with a third inning RBI ground out that scored Marvel.

Villanova tied the game on a sacrifice fly by Meghan Morse in the fourth, and took the lead for good as Donley led off the home half of the sixth inning with her eighth home run of the year.

Lehigh threatened in the seventh, but winning pitcher Laura Determan (13-11) struck out Sterrett with a runner on base to end the game.

Sophomore Lisa Sweeney suffered the loss, allowing two runs on five hits while fanning three. She falls to 17-5 on the season.

Sweeney’s classmate, second baseman Whitney Lowe ripped three singles in four at-bats to extend her hitting streak to seven games.

The Mountain Hawks will return to action on Saturday when Lehigh wraps up the Patriot League regular season with four games at Colgate. Lehigh needs to win two of the four scheduled games to clinch its ninth straight Patriot League regular season title. Saturday’s doubleheader gets underway at noon from the Eaton Street Field in Hamilton, N.Y.
