Coen continued, “We had a few fumbled snaps so that needs to get fixed, but I think at this point of the year, no team in the country is satisfied with where it’s at. We saw some very promising things out there today on both sides of the ball. I think certain guys stepped up, such as Nick Johnson who had a very nice catch to open things up, Sean (Parrott), I’ve been on him all spring long to run hard and he did that today. So we’ll go back and watch the film and I’m sure we’ll address what needs addressing.”
There was a modified scoring system in place for the scrimmage in which the defense earned points for stops, turnovers, and sacks, among other things. Nick Johnson opened the day with a pretty 30-yard catch on a pass from senior quarterback Sedale Threatt down the right sideline. Parrott scored twice on the day, including one run from a yard out and another on a twisting 40-yard scamper to pay dirt. “Coach has been saying all spring, ‘Run hard, run hard,’ and today I think the running backs came out and played well. On that play the hole just opened up and I was kind of shocked so I just kept going.” Parrot’s first touchdown was set up by a nice catch and run play from junior wideout Sekou Yansane in which he tried to stretch the ball across the goal line, but was called down.
Sophomore Eric Moore also scored on a rushing touchdown, while junior Jason Leo booted two field goals, one from 47 yards and another from 35. The Lehigh defense showed signs all day long that they will be a physical, swarming unit in 2007. Junior linebacker Tim Diamond recovered a fumble following a ferocious hit by safety Ernest Moore. “Guys were flying around out there today,”
Prior to the start of the Brown and White game, the program announced its 2007 captains. Senior safety Ernest Moore, senior offensive lineman John Reese, senior defensive back Brannan Thomas and senior quarterback Sedale Threatt were all voted as captains by their teammates. Reese and Threatt are both two-time captains for the Mountain Hawks.
“It’s an honor,”
The Brown and White game marks the conclusion of 15 spring practices for the Mountain Hawks. Lehigh will officially open camp on Friday, August 10, and the Mountain Hawks open the 2007 season at Goodman Stadium on September 8 vs.
