No. 33 Virginia Tech proves too strong for Lehigh

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Lehigh concluded its spring break trip to Florida with a 7-0 loss to ACC member Virginia Tech Thursday afternoon at the DeSoto Tennis Center. The Hokies, ranked 33rd in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, proved too strong for the Brown and White, winning all three doubles matches and sweeping the six singles contests as well. The Mountain Hawks fall to 1-7 on the season with the setback.

 

Virginia tech swept the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. The closest contest came at No. 2 doubles, where junior Brent Herbert and freshman Drew Balshi lost 8-6 to Alexei Sergeev and Arvid Puranen.

 

The Hokies were dominant in singles play, sweeping all six matches in straight sets, while combining to lose just three games along the way.

 

The Mountain Hawks will return to the court on Thursday, March 15, when they welcome St. John’s to the Lewis Tennis Center. The match gets underway at 3:00 pm.
