Lehigh falls to Stony Brook on the road

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Lehigh lost its first game of the season on Wednesday afternoon when the Mountain Hawks fell to Stony Brook by a score of 22-4 in Long Island.  Sophomore Sara MacIntyre netted two goals for the Brown and White, which falls to 1-1 on the young season.  Amy Taylor was one of four Stony Brook players to net a game-high four scores for the Seawolves, who improve to 2-0 with the victory. 

 

Stony Brook jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the first 11 minutes of play, but Lehigh was finally able to get on the board when sophomore Kyle Roth netted her first score of the season at the 17:53 mark.  The Seawolves scored the game’s next two goals to go in front 7-1, but junior Christy Smith brought Lehigh to within five at 7-2 with an unassisted score at the 12:44 clip.  MacIntyre would then score her two goals for the Mountain Hawks to make the score 9-4 at the teams headed into halftime.

 

In the second half, Lehigh was unable to get any type of offense going, and the powerful Stony Brook offense responded, unleashing 22 shots, 12 of which found the back of the net.  Lehigh was out shot 44-15 on the afternoon and scooped up 17 ground balls.  Lehigh won 16 draw controls, but turned the ball over 29 times. 

 

Freshman Kelsy Ferris stopped 11 shots in goal for the Brown and White and also scooped up two ground balls, while MacIntyre unleashed a team-high six shots for the game.  The sophomore also won four draw controls.

 

For Stony Brook, three different players scored four goals, while Carlee Buck totaled six points with a goal and five assists.

 

Lehigh returns to action on Friday when the Mountain Hawks play host to LaSalle at the Ulrich Sports Complex.  Game time is set for 4:00.
