Lehigh heads to Bucknell for final road game

11/6/2007 12:00:00 AM | Football

Lehigh hits the road for the final time this season as the Mountain Hawks head to Lewisburg to take on the Bucknell Bison at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.  Lehigh is looking to shake off last weekend’s tough 21-7 loss in Hamilton, New York versus Colgate and pull its record even on the season.  Despite the setback there were several positives the Mountain Hawks can take away from last week’s game, including a career day rushing for freshman Jaren Walker and the performance of the defense, which held All-America running back Jordan Scott out of the end zone and 58 yards below his season average.  Bucknell meanwhile, is searching for its first win since a 38-7 victory over Marist on September 29 and is coming off a 34-7 loss to Lafayette last weekend in Easton.  The Bison have not won a league game since knocking off Colgate 31-28 in last season’s finale.

Bucknell enters Saturday’s game in search of its first win in over a month and its first league victory since 2006.   Once again a very young team, the Bucknell two-deep features just ten seniors, six of which are starters.  The Bison rely on a strong rushing attack, but last week were forced to take to the air against the Patriot League’s top defense in Lafayette, and that proved to me a major challenge as Bucknell completed only six-of-20 passes for 90 yards.  For the season, Bucknell is averaging nearly 170 yards on the ground per game, led by A.J. Kizekai, who leads the team with 363 yards and a 6.8 average.  Marcello Trigg is the team’s leading passer with 890 yards and six touchdowns through the air, while Kizekai is also the team’s leading receiver, having hauled in 14 passes for 263 yards and three scores.  On defense, the Bison’s top three leading tacklers are all underclassmen, led by Todd Manjuck and his 65 total tackles, which includes two TFL.

Freshman John Kennedy has done an outstanding job all season long returning kicks for the Mountain Hawks.  The Philadelphia native has returned 38 kicks for an average of 25.3 yards per.  If that number stands, it would be the highest return average for a Lehigh player with at least ten returns, since Abdul Byron averaged 34.8 yards per kick return in 2001.  Kennedy’s 963 all-purpose yards this season leads the Brown and White.
