Lehigh swept by UConn in home opener

Junior Dan Johnson led the way for the Lehigh men, winning the 100 and 200 yard freestyle events. Johnson took the 200 in 1:45.11 and followed with a time of 47.99 seconds in the 100 free. Senior Jonathan Kearney also added a strong effort, winning the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 1:56.58.
Freshman Willy Jacquier took first place in the one meter dive with a time of 277.20, and Lehigh’s men captured the final event of the day as Johnson, senior Michael Hay, sophomore Ryan Guttormsen and freshman Matt Tax won the 200 free relay in a time of 1:27.16.
On the women’s side, freshman Allison Montanye won the 50 freestyle in 25.48 for the lone event win. Junior Melanie Rolish placed second in both the 200 breast and 200 individual medley, while sophomore Allison Rolish took second in the 500 and 1000 yard freestyle events.
The Mountain Hawks will return to the pool next Saturday when they open up Patriot League competition against the Navy women’s team and the men and women from Colgate. The meet gets underway at 2 p.m. from Jacobs Pool.
