Wrestle-off match-ups finalized after draft

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Match-ups for the 2007 Lehigh wrestle-offs were finalized Saturday afternoon, as honorary coaches Dick Moll and Richard Kish took part in a draft prior to Lehigh’s football game versus Georgetown. Harmon-Rauch assistant coach Tim Dernlan was on hand as well representing the wrestling program as sides were chosen for Tuesday night’s season-opening matches inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall.

Dernlan presented the two honorary coaches with a rundown of the 12 scheduled bouts for Tuesday night. The coaches then alternated selections in a 12 round draft.

Prior to the draft it was determined that Moll, representing the Lehigh Wrestling Club and season ticket holders would guide the Brown team, while Kish, a professor of finance and law at Lehigh would guide the White team.

Kish was awarded first pick and selected sophomore heavyweight Justin Allen, who will square off against junior Samir Soriano on Tuesday night. With Allen’s selection, Soriano was assigned to Moll’s Brown team. Kish selected Allen, who should enjoy a healthy weight advantage over Soriano who normally wrestles at 184.

Moll’s first selection was junior captain Matt Fisk, who will face fifth-year senior newcomer Greg Wolbrette in a bout at 133.

Picks three through six saw Kish select two of his finance students in senior Dave Nakasone (third) and junior Kevin Vinh (fifth), while Moll picked junior Trevor Chinn (fourth) and deferred freshman Alex Caruso (sixth).

Kish’s final three selections were freshmen Sean Bilodeau (seventh) and Kellen Aura (ninth) and sophomore Alex Iacocca (eleventh). Moll answered with sophomore Manuel Schubert (eighth), freshman Kyle Rosser (tenth) and sophomore David Chirichello (twelfth).

Senior Jeff Santo and sophomore David Craig will both miss the wrestle-offs due to injury.

The Lehigh wrestle-offs will take place Tuesday night inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall.
