Junior linebacker Tim Diamond picked up his second National Defensive Player of the Week award in as many days on Tuesday as the SME (Sports Media Entertainment) Network named him their co-linebacker of the week in FCS Football for his performance in the Mountain Hawks win over Harvard this past Saturday.  Diamond registered a career and game-high 22 tackles against the Crimson and he also added one sack, one fumble recovery and a forced fumble that led to the winning touchdown.  Diamond, who garnered College Sporting News and Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week honors on Monday, was joined by North Dakota State’s Joe Mays as National co-linebackers of the week.

Diamond’s 22 tackles against the Crimson were the most by a Lehigh player since Sam Brinley recorded 22 in a game at Bucknell in November of 1997.  The 22-tackle effort was the second highest total in an FCS game this season, second only to Fordham’s Brian Loucks who had 26 versus Albany on September 8.  For the season, Diamond leads the Mountain Hawks in total tackles (35) and fumble recoveries (2) and he has added 1.5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble.

Diamond and the rest of the Mountain Hawks return to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to the Bronx to take on Fordahm in their 2007 Patriot League opener.  Game time is set for 1:00 from Jack Coffey Field and all of the action can be heard live on ESPN Radio 1230 and 1320 AM as well as around the world on Lehighsports.com with Matt Kerr, Kody Fedorcha ’00 and Matt Markus on the call.  Streaming audio is powered by Yahoo!
