Lehigh meets Crusaders in pivotal league game

10/16/2007 12:00:00 AM | Football

Following back-to-back road games, Lehigh returns home on Saturday afternoon to face the high-powered offense of the Holy Cross Crusaders on Alumni Day at Goodman Stadium in the first of five consecutive Patriot League contests to close out the 2007 regular season.  Lehigh fell to No. 16 Yale last weekend in Connecticut in a hard fought affair by a score of 23-7, in a game in which the Mountain Hawks held the Bulldogs 19 points below their season average and became the first team this season to score a single point versus Yale in the first quarter.  Holy Cross meanwhile, comes into Bethlehem riding a two-game winning streak following a 41-15 victory over Dartmouth in Worcester, Massachusetts.  Lehigh, which lost its league opener two weeks ago, has not lost back-to-back Patriot League contests since 1997.

The Crusaders feature one of the Patriot League’s most explosive offenses, averaging a league-best 37 points, 324 passing yards and 472 total yards per game.  Led by quarterback Dominic Randolph (311.5 pass yards/game), Holy Cross has scored 30 or more points in eight of its last 18 games, including all seven this season.  Three Crusader receivers rank in the top-five of the league in receptions and receiving yards per game.  On the flip side, Holy Cross is just fifth in the league in scoring defense, allowing over 26 points per game, but it does lead the league in turnover margin at +3.

Over the course of the past six games at Goodman Stadium, Lehigh’s defense has been outstanding allowing an average of just 14.2 points per game.  In that time, only one opponent has scored more than 15 points (Villanova, 2007).

Saturday’s game kicks off at 1:07 from Goodman Stadium.  Tickets are still available and can be purchased in one of three ways: by calling (610) 7LU-GAME, by visiting the Lehigh Athletics Ticket Office, located in Grace Hall, or by logging onto Lehighsports.com at anytime.
