WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Mountain Hawks defense got the job done on both sides of the field on Wednesday afternoon in their match-up against the George Washington Colonials at Mount Vernon Field.  Senior backs Joe Verdi and John O’Reilly scored Lehigh’s goals as the Mountain Hawks blanked the Colonials 2-0 for the team’s sixth shutout of the season.  Lehigh, who is currently No. 5 in the Mid-Atlantic Region, now improves to 6-1-1 on the season while George Washington falls to 2-4-1.

The Mountain Hawks got on the scoreboard in the 19th minute when Verdi’s header off an Adam Gazda pass found its way past Colonial goalkeeper Greg Yahr.  O’Reilly gave the Mountain Hawks the 2-0 lead in the 60th minute off a direct kick from 20 yards out.  This was the second-consecutive game in which O’Reillly had a free kick from at least 20 yards that resulted in a goal and his third goal in the two games.

Senior Jim Morahan recorded three saves en route to his sixth shutout.  Lehigh outshot George Washington 18-12.  However, the Colonials held a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Mountain Hawks return to the Ulrich Sports Complex on Saturday night when they take on the Holy Cross Crusaders at 7:00 pm.  The game will be broadcast live online at lehighsports.com with streaming audio and video powered by Yahoo! Sports.
