The first half belonged to Brown, as the Bears held the ball in Lehigh’s defensive end and held a commanding 12-2 advantage in shots. Brown scored the game’s first goal at the 22:06 mark as Andrea Posa slipped a loose ball past Lehigh senior goalkeeper Stephanie Palmieri. Five minutes later the Bears were awarded a penalty stroke, in which Samantha Lloyd beat Palmieri stick side to make it 2-0. Palmieri did her part to keep Lehigh in the game with nine first half saves,
Brown’s lead grew to 3-0 eight minutes into the second half as Sandhya Dihr smacked a falling down, backhand attempt past Palmieri.
The Mountain Hawks finally got on the scoreboard in the 61st minute when freshman Kelly Fox redirected Kelly Hansen’s drive into the back of the cage for her second goal of the season. Brown however, came right back scoring 29 seconds later on a pass from Abby Hein to Stacy Gugliotta.
“I thought Steph (Palmieri) and the defense played well,“ said Lehigh head coach Julie Mazer. “We need to put a complete game together. I know we are capable of playing much better, it’s just a matter of going out there and proving we can do it.”
The Bears held a commanding 25-6 edge in shots and a 9-2 advantage in penalty corners. Palmieri finished with a season-best 17 saves on the day, while her counterpart Kristen Hodavance turned aside two shots on the day.
The Mountain Hawks will take to the road for their next two contests, beginning Friday when Lehigh visits
