After dropping the opener, The Mountain Hawks wasted no time in game two, racing out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, when senior Mary Wieder reached on an error, allowing pinch runner Ali Linsk to score. Two innings later, Wieder picked up a pair of RBI with a single to centerfield that scored Kate Marvel and Heather Hamasaki.
Three runs were plenty of support for Arico (12-6), who allowed just a pair of singles in notching her fourth shutout of the season. Arico struck out two, and had her drop ball working, as she recorded 15 of 21 outs via the ground.
Freshman Whitney Lowe had the games only extra-base hit, a triple off of losing pitcher Kristen Schaus (16-9). Wieder, Marvel and Hamasaki all delivered singles as well.
In the opener, freshman Lisa Sweeney struck out six in a losing effort, giving her 195 strikeouts on the season, a new school and Patriot League record.
Sweeney allowed a pair of solo home runs to Amanda Erickson in the fourth and sixth innings, but was done in by six unearned runs allowed with two outs in the fifth, as she falls to 24-4 on the season. The loss was Sweeney’s first in 21 starts dating back to the middle of March.
Erin Snyder (17-5) was dominant in the circle for the Tigers, striking out 14 while only allowing singles to Hamasaki, Sweeney and junior Whitney Schenbeck.
