KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Sophomore Yvonne Kukora shot an 88 to pace Lehigh at the opening round of the Golden Bear Invitational at Berkleigh Country Club on Friday afternoon. The Mountain Hawks shot a 357 through 18 holes, two strokes in back of front-runner Mount St. Mary’s. Saturday’s second round was washed away, giving the Mountaineers the team title.

Simone De Souza of California (Pa.) shot a ten-over par 84 to win the event by one stroke over Katie Letsch of Mount St. Mary’s.

Kukora’s 88 paced the Mountain Hawks, and put her in a tie for fifth place overall. All four Lehigh golfers were tightly bunched, with only two strokes separating them. Sophomore Tiina Olsson (89) finished one stroke behind Kukora in a tie for eighth. Freshman Katey Gumz and junior Kassia Nelson each shot a 90 on Friday, finishing in a tie for 12th place.

The Mountain Hawks return to the links on Tuesday, when Lehigh visits Gettysburg, Pa. to take part in the Gettysburg Invitational.
