Gumz, Mountain Hawks win at Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Lehigh freshman Katey Gumz shot a nine-over par 81 to capture individual medalist honors, and lead her team to a 17-stroke win at the ten team Gettysburg Invitational on Tuesday afternoon. The victory was the first for Gumz, and the sixth for the Mountain Hawks this year.

Gumz’ 81 was one stroke better than second place Rachel Armstrong of Randolph-Macon, who shot an 82. On the team side, Lehigh’s 340 was 17 strokes better than second place Mount St. Mary’s.

Gumz wasn’t the only Lehigh golfer to fare well on Tuesday. All five Mountain Hawks to compete finished in the tournament’s top ten. Sophomore Allison Juster shot an 85 to finish in a tie for fourth place. Sophomore Yvonne Kukora tied for seventh overall with an 86, and Tiina Olsson and Alison Webb, also sophomores, tied for ninth place by each shooting an 88.

Lehigh’s win at the Gettysburg Invitational marked the end of spring play for the Mountain Hawks.
