Hanley singled in the first inning versus the Gaels, and scored Lehigh’s first run after a double by junior Heather Hamasaki. The Mountain Hawks plated two more in the top of the third, as senior Mary Wieder delivered an RBI double and Sweeney reached on an error following a squeeze bunt attempt.
Lehigh broke the game open with three more runs in the fourth inning, as Hanley tripled to right centerfield to score Megan Conrad and Whitney Lowe. The Mountain Hawks adeed two more in the sixth as junior Julie Sterrett delivered a two-run triple, and the game was called via the mercy rule after six innings.
The eight runs were plenty of support for Sweeney, who allowed three hits and struck out ten Gaels to improve to 10-3 on the season. The first nine outs recorded by Sweeney were strikeouts on Saturday.
