BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Junior forward Adrienne Blount scored a career high 26 points and registered her fourth double-double, but it wasn’t enough as American held off Lehigh by a 75-68 score at Stabler Arena on Saturday night.  American senior Tala Hadavi scored a career high 30 points, draining five three pointers in the win.  The loss, Lehigh’s fifth in a row, drops the Mountain Hawks to 7-14 overall and 2-6 in Patriot League play.  American sees its record improve to 6-15 overall and 3-5 in the league with the victory.

Blount scored 19 of her 26 in the second half, as Lehigh tried to come back.  Down by a 33-32 score at the break, the Mountain Hawks couldn’t slow the Eagles down, as American went on a 14-2 run to go up by nine with 14:36 remaining in the game.

The Eagles built an 11-point lead, before the Mountain Hawks began to chip away.  Trailing by eight in the final minute, Blount drained a three from the top of the key to cut the deficit to five with 27 seconds to play.  The make was Blount’s second from beyond the arc this season.  After the Eagles hit a free throw, Blount came down the floor and knocked down another trey from the top of the key, cutting the deficit to three at 71-68 with 13 seconds left.

However, Lehigh could draw no closer as American sank four key free throws in the game’s final seconds.

Hadavi’s 30-points effort established a new career high, and the output marked the first time an Eagle had scored 30 points in a game in three years.  Hadavi added six assists for the Eagles.  She was one of three AU players in double figures, as Sahar Nusseibeh added 18 points, and Tara Williams scored ten.

As a team, American entered the night connecting on only 54% of its free throw opportunities.  On Saturday, however, the Eagles shot 77% (20-of-26) from the line.

Blount not only led Lehigh in the scoring column, but on the boards as well.  Her 11 rebounds were a game high, and marked Blount’s second consecutive double-double and fourth of the season.  Senior Jenny Callan added 15 points and eight rebounds, and junior Emily Geosits chipped in 11 points and a personal-best six rebounds.  Sophomore Claire Sullivan registered her seventh game of ten-plus assists, dishing out eleven helpers on Saturday.

The Mountain Hawks attempted a season-high 76 field goals, connecting on 27 for a field goal percentage of 35.5%.  Lehigh out-rebounded American, 44 to 34, but Lehigh connected on only seven of 27 three-point field goal tries.

Lehigh now sits in a seventh-place tie in the Patriot League standings, and the Mountain Hawks will look to get back on track Tuesday night, when they visit Navy.  Game time is set for 7:30 pm from Annapolis, Md.  WLVR-FM (91.3) and Lehighsports.com will broadcast the game live, with audio coverage getting underway at 7:15.
