Men fourth, women seventh at PL Championships

The Mountain Hawks had several impressive performances on the championships’ final day. Junior Tom Gilbert finished second in the 200 yard backstroke, touching the wall in 1:50.40. Lehigh qualified three swimmers for the finals in the 200 yard breaststroke with seniors Grant Flothmeier taking third in 2:04.24, Andrew Valko taking sixth and Jason O’Koren finishing in eighth place.
In other men’s action, senior Sean Herman placed seventh in the 100 free, finishing in 46.45. Sophomore Jon Kearney had a pair of seventh place finishes on the day, completing the 1650 yard freestyle in 16:22.03 and the 200 fly in 1:54.83. Sophomore Clark Cohen took eighth in the three meter dive. In the 400 free relay, Herman, Flothmeier, senior Dan Buschmann and freshman Dan Johnson teamed to finish third.
On the women’s side, junior Julie Mitchell took fifth place in the 200 yard back, with a time of 2.06.95. Junior Betsy Balaguer finished seventh in the 1650 free, with a time of 17:44.58. Freshman Nikky Perella qualified for the finals in the one meter dive, placing fifth with 216.10 points. The Lehigh quartet of seniors Linda Hendrixson and Alysa Zellner, junior Betsy Balaguer and sophomore Terry Mongan combined to finish sixth in the 400 free relay.

Lehigh finished the three-day meet with one individual champion, Flothmeier who took top honors in the 100 breast on Friday night.
