BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Senior Adrienne Blount nailed a three-pointer with four seconds remaining to tie the championship game of the tenth annual Christmas City Classic at 48-48, but Seton Hall’s Ashley Booker had an amazing shot of her own—a half court shot at the buzzer to lift the Pirates to a 51-48 victory Saturday night at Stabler Arena.  Freshman Alex Ross scored a game-high 16 points as Lehigh now falls to 5-8 on the season.

“Looking at the overall game, we played one of our best halves this season in the first half,” said head coach Sue Troyan.  “The second was not our best, but despite the turnovers and the missed rebounds we were able to stay in the game.  I thought we competed very well against this team.  It was an important step forward for us because if we can compete with a team like Seton Hall, then we can compete with anyone in the Patriot League.”

After Seton Hall’s Jadis Rhodin hit the game’s opening jumper, but Blount started Lehigh’s scoring drive as she nailed a jumper and then gave the Mountain Hawks a 3-2 lead off a free throw at 19:20.  Lehigh would continue to build its first half lead as the Mountain Hawks never relinquished the lead during the half.  A three-pointer by Sara Ellis at the 3:50 mark gave Lehigh a 27-13 lead, which would be its largest lead of game.  The Mountain Hawks would go into the half carrying a 29-17 lead over the Pirates.

Seton Hall would begin to mount its comeback early in the first seven minutes of the second half as the Pirates went on a 10-0 scoring run.  Sophomore Melissa Rich’s jumper at 12:56 gave the Mountain Hawks their first points of the second half as the Brown and White led the game 31-27.  Lehigh and Seton Hall would battle it out for the remainder of the game, with the largest lead being seven points at 2:31 as the Pirates led 48-41.  Freshman Kristen Dalton brought the Mountain Hawks to within three points as she sank a free throw shot at 2:21 and then a three-pointer one minute later.  Three missed jumpers by Seton Hall and an important defensive rebound by sophomore Haly Crites would lead to Blount’s game-tying shot.

Monique Blake led the Pirates with ten points and seven rebounds.

In the consolation game, Central Michigan defeated Gardner-Webb 77-64 to take third place in the tournament.  The Chippewas had five players reach double-figures as Sharonda Hurd had a team-high 15 points.  Candyse Kelly scored a game-high 28 points for Gardner Webb.

Lehigh plays its final out-of-conference game on Wednesday night when the Mountain Hawks host Yale at 7:00 pm at Stabler Arena.  Live audio of the game will be broadcast locally on WLVR-FM (91.3) as well as worldwide online at lehighsports.com, with streaming provided by Yahoo! Sports.
