Women take fourth, men place fifth at PL meet

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Lehigh’s men’s and women’s cross country teams got the championship season underway on Saturday morning at the Patriot League Championship meet held on the Henry H. Lang Cross Country Cross at Colgate University.  The Mountain Hawk women finished fourth out of eight teams, recording 92 points.  The Mountain Hawk men finished fifth out of eight teams with 119 points.  Seniors Jenni Schappert and Sarah Seiler both earned all-league honors by placing fourth and 11th, respectively.  Schappert finished the 6K course in 23:47.3 while Seiler completed the course in 24:30.6.

 

In addition to Schappert and Seiler, sophomore Shannon Alejandro also placed the top 20.  Alejandro finished 16th overall in a time of 24:36.3.  Rounding out the rest of the top seven were freshmen Katilin Grimm (25:07.2, 25th) and Dana Stellar (25:29.2, 38th), sophomore Kathleen McClernand (25:38, 43rd) and senior Carolyn House (25:55.9, 46th).

 

Senior Sean Swift paced the Mountain Hawk men, finishing the 8K course in 26:51.6 and placing 17th.  The next four Mountain Hawks finished right after each other as seniors Brendan Glover, Victor Vientos, Steven Rosinski and sophomore Jonathan Wetzel took 24th through 27th places.  Glover led the pack with a time of 27:14.6.  Vientos followed with a time of 27:15.8.  Rosinski crossed the line in 27:16.3 while Wetzel finished the course in 27:18.  Rounding out the Mountain Hawk men were junior Joseph Kelly (27:31.8, 32nd) and freshman Kenneth Burgess (27:46.1, 36th).

 

Bucknell’s women claimed their second-straight team title by placing all five scoring runners in the top 10.  The Bison, led by individual champion Leanna Nastase and runner-up Erin Crammer-Hart, recorded 28 points.

 

American’s men earned their fifth-straight team championship by placing five runners in the top 10 and recording 25 points.  The Eagles were led by race champion Brendan Fennell, who earned American’s fourth-straight individual title.  Fennell crossed the line in 25:20.8.

 

Next up for the Mountain Hawks is the Mid-Atlantic Regional race that will take place at Lock Haven University on November 11.  The women’s race is scheduled to start at 11:00 am while the men’s race is at 12:15 pm.
