“I thought we took advantage of our opportunities really well,” said head coach Julie Mazer. “The defense was poised and calm considering the number of shots Drexel took. Our restarts were certainly better. Offensively, we were able to use our speed against a real good team and take advantage of what was given to us.”
The Mountain Hawks took a 1-0 lead going into halftime when Smith scored her seventh goal of the season. Smith handled the ball down the entire field and lifted a shot over Drexel goalie Colleen McAndrew in the 22nd minute. Drexel came back to even the score at 47:45 off a goal by Emily Horvat, but Cochran found the cage for her third goal of the season exactly one minute later. Jennifer Bolger scored the equalizer for the Dragons in the 56th minute to tie the game at 2-2.
Lehigh looked to have been heading towards its second-straight overtime game until Zweizig gave the Mountain Hawks a much needed goal in the 68th minute. It was Zweizig’s sixth goal of the season and her second game-winner.
Senior Stephanie Palmieri proved to be solid in goal, making five stops. Drexel outshot the Mountain Hawks 17-8 and held a 10-3 advantage in penalty corners.
