HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Lehigh saw its two game winning streak come to an end on Saturday, as the Mountain Hawks fell to Columbia by a score of 2-0.  The game was played at Hofstra University.  With the loss, Lehigh falls to 3-5 on the season, while the Lions improve their record to 2-3 with the victory.

Columbia got on the board first when Kim Branich scored at the 10:14 mark off of a penalty corner.  Courtney Robinson and Erin Wesseldine assisted on the score.  Neither team was able to muster any additional offense for the remainder of the half, and so Lehigh went into halftime trialing by one goal.

In the second half, Columbia tacked onto its lead on the strength of a goal by Elizabeth Reeve, on a shot past Lehigh goal keeper Meghan Gove from seven yards out, which put the Lions in front and sealed the win.  For the game, Lehigh had nine shots, to the Lions 15, while the Mountain Hawks were awarded four penalty corners, and Columbia had five.  Gove finished with 11 saves in the cage for the Brown and White and Columbia goal keeper Kristina George sent back two Lehigh shots.

Senior Mary Beth Kuenne led the Mountain Hawks in shots with three, while classmate Maureen Harrington unleashed two.  The Lions were led by Ramie Merrill’s five shots and Robinson’s four.

Head coach Julie Mazer offered her thoughts following the contest.  “We need to finish.  We need to put ourselves in better position to have more scoring opportunities and take more shots.  We didn’t do that effectively today, and it cost us.”

Lehigh gets right back in action on Sunday afternoon, as the Mountain Hawks travel to Providence, R.I. to take on Brown University.  Game time is set for 12:00.
