PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Lehigh bounced back from a loss to Columbia on Saturday with a solid 2-0 shut out of Brown on Sunday afternoon behind the strong play from two of its seniors.  Marissa Iannrone scored both Mountain Hawk goals, while Meghan Gove registered a career-high 18 saves in the cage for Lehigh.  With the victory, Lehigh improves to 4-5 on the season, while the Bears fall to 1-3.

Iannarone got things going for the Brown and White when she took a feed from Christy Smith and found the back of the cage at the 23:25 mark of the first half.  Iannarone then went to work again as she scored an unassisted goal at the 30:28 mark to give the Mountain Hawks all of the offense they would need.  Gove was brilliant in goal for Lehigh all afternoon, recording her career high in saves, while the entire Lehigh defense stepped up their play as well.  Head coach Julie Mazer offers her thoughts on the Mountain Hawks victory.  “Our defense just kept fighting and fighting out there today.  We kept our composure and were able to bounce back following yesterday’s loss.”  Mazer continued, “We really played excellent defense all afternoon.  Meghan and the entire defensive unit was what made the difference for us.”

For the game, Lehigh had only eight shots, while the Bears unleashed a fury of 30.  The Mountain Hawks had zero penalty corners and Brown had an amazing 17.  Brown goal keeper Kristen Hodavance sent back three Mountain Hawk shots on the day, while Smantha Lloyd led the Bears with seven shots.  Iannarone led Lehigh with two shots and was the only Mountain Hawk to have more than one on the day.

Lehigh returns to action on Wednesday evening when the Mountain Hawks make their return to the Ulrich Sports Complex for the first time since September 2 versus the Wildcats of Villanova.  Game time is set for 7:00 and the contest will be broadcast live on lehighsports.com with streaming video and audio provided by Yahoo! Sports.  The contest will be replayed locally on Service Electric 2 Sports later that evening at 10:00 and again on Fox College Sports (FCS) on September 24 beginning at 7:00.
