Mountain Hawks make history with tenth league win

Lehigh was led in scoring by Jessica DePalo, while the Mountain Hawk quintet of seniors (DePalo, Kelly Berk, Carli Toliver, Mary Frances Hynoski and Chantal St. Laurent) combined for 41 points, 22 rebounds and 10 assists on their farewell evening.
After falling behind 9-5 at the 15:57 mark of the first half, Lehigh went on an incredible 27-3 run over the next 13 minutes to go in front 32-12 at the 3:42 mark. The Mountain Hawks would take a 38-14 lead into the locker room after shooting 40 percent in the opening half, while the Leopards connected on just 21 percent.
Jenny Callan led Lehigh with 11 points in the opening half on five of seven shooting, while DePalo added six points and eight rebounds.
In the second half, Lehigh carried much of its momentum over from the first half and when Toliver hit a three-pointer off of a feed from freshman Claire Sullivan at the 13:40 mark, the Mountain Hawks had stretched their lead to 30 points at 51-21. Lehigh would extend its lead to beyond 30 points several times in the half, and with two minutes remaining, head coach Sue Troyan pulled out the Lehigh seniors, giving the crowd one last chance to cheer for the young women that helped lead the Mountain Hawks to the school record tenth league win.
DePalo led all scorers with 14 points and a season high 12 rebounds. Callan also recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards. Hynoski chipped in with 10 points, while
“It was a great win for us to get back on track after two losses,” said head coach Sue Troyan. “The girls did a great job and it was a great way to celebrate a great senior class tonight.”
Lehigh returns to action on Thursday evening when the Mountain Hawks open up play in the 2005 Patriot League Tournament as they host Bucknell at Stabler Arena, beginning at 8:00.
