BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh hosted a meet at Jacobs Pool for the first time this season on Friday night and the Mountain Hawks delivered an outstanding performance as they swept archrival Lafayette. The Lehigh men downed the Leopards by a convincing 190-50 margin. The Mountain Hawks defeated their rivals from Easton for the 15th straight season as the Brown and White improve to 2-3. The Lehigh women were underdogs coming in but after an inspired performance they bested Lafayette’s women by a 134-109 score to improve to 1-5. Both Leopard squads fall to 0-4.

On the men’s side the Mountain Hawks won all 13 events to coast to a 140 point victory. Sophomore Jonathan Kearney had another solid meet, winning a pair of freestyle events – the 1000 and 500 as well as the 200 yard fly. Seniors Grant Flothmeier and Sean Herman each won two individual events and one relay. Flothmeier took first in the 200 IM and the 200 breast, as well as the 400 medley relay, while Herman took top honors in the 50 and 100 yard freestyle as well as the 400 free relay. Freshman Dan Johnson won the 200 free and was part of the 400 yard free relay team with Herman, Dan Buschmann and Michael Hay. Sophomore Clark Cohen swept both diving events in the win as well.

The women’s meet was expected to be close, as evidenced by last year’s two point Lafayette win in Easton. The Mountain Hawks got a strong performance from junior Betsy Balaguer who won three events. Balaguer raced to victory in the 1000 yard free in a time of 10:46.20, and then came back in the next race to win the 200 free in 1:57.19. She added a win in the 500 free as well for the Brown and White. Senior Linda Hendrixson won the 200 IM while Julie Mitchell took top honors in the 200 back. Senior Laura Gray captured both diving events as the Mountain Hawks took all four diving competitions on the evening.
