Lehigh blanks Drexel 2-0 on the road

Philadelphia, PA – Lehigh went to Drexel on Wednesday afternoon and came home with its first road victory of the season, a 2-0 triumph.  The Mountain Hawks improve to 5-2-1 on the season, while Drexel falls to 2-5.  Lehigh’s defense limited the Dragons to just six shots on the day, while senior Sam Bishop stopped two shots on the day to post his second shutout of the season.

 

The Mountain Hawks got on the board at the 13:30 mark when Jim Stevens found the back of the net for the fourth time this season off of a volley.  Stevens is now tied for the team lead in goals and sits in second with eight points.

 

Joe Verdi scored his first collegiate goal at the 41:17 mark off of a header from Matt Franz to put Lehigh in front 2-0 and help preserve the victory.  From there the Lehigh defense took over, leading to the road win.

 

Lehigh got off 13 shots on the day, while the Mountain Hawks had eight corners compared to Drexel’s one.  Drexel’s goal keeper Jim Greco stopped two Mountain Hawk shots on the day, while for Lehigh Verdi led the team with four shots. 

 

Lehigh returns to action on Saturday evening when the Mountain Hawks step back into Patriot League play, as they host American from the Ulrich Sports Complex.  Game time is scheduled for 7:00 and all of the action can be heard live on lehighsports.com.
