10/2/2004 12:00:00 AM | Men's Soccer

Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh dropped a heartbreaker on Saturday evening at the Ulrich Sports Complex to American by a score of 1-0.  The goal came with just 34 seconds remaining in the game on an own goal that trickled past several Mountain Hawk players and into the goal.  The loss drops Lehigh to 5-3-1 overall and 0-1-1 in Patriot League play, while the Eagles improve to 6-4-1, 2-0-0 in league play.

The two teams battled feverishly all night through the first 98 minutes until the game-winner with just over 30 seconds remaining.  Lehigh outshot the Eagles 7-6 and had four corners to American’s three.  In goal for Lehigh, senior Sam Bishop recorded four saves, while Thomas Myers stopped Lehigh three Mountain Hawk shots.

Head coach Dean Koski was disappointed after the loss, but looked at it in perspective.  “I am disappointed that we lost, after we played so hard.  American played hard too, we just had some poor communication in the box and it cost us.”  Koski concluded, “We’ll just move forward from this.”

Lehigh returns to action on Wednesday when the Mountain Hawks travel to Garden City, New York to take on Adelphi.  Game time is slated for 4:00.
