Late Towson goal proves too much for Lehigh

9/22/2004 12:00:00 AM | Men's Soccer

Towson, MD – Lehigh senior Sam Bishop recorded eight saves but it wasn’t enough as Towson edged Lehigh by a 1-0 score on Wednesday afternoon.  The setback drops the Mountain Hawks to 4-2-0 overall, while the Tigers improve to 5-2-1 on the season.  The defeat also snaps Lehigh’s three-match winning streak.

The lone goal of the contest came in the 67th minute as Towson’s Sebastian Haensel found the back of the net on a header for his fourth goal of the season.  Lehigh had several opportunities, but was unable to score.  The Mountain Hawks out-shot the Tigers by a 16-12 count for the match, and Lehigh registered four corner kicks to just one for Towson.

In net for the Tigers, Zak Thompson recorded five saves.  For Bishop and the Lehigh defense, the Towson score was the first goal surrendered in nearly four matches.

Lehigh opens Patriot League play on Saturday, when the Mountain Hawks host Holy Cross.  Action gets underway at 3:00, and the action will be broadcast live on Lehigh’s web site at lehighsports.com.
