Arico dominant as Lehigh takes 3rd at Dixie Classic

Virginia Beach, VA – Kate Arico threw a shutout, and the Mountain Hawks scraped together enough offense to get the job done as they beat Delaware 2-0 on Sunday to take third place in the Dixie Classic. Lehigh took advantage of three Blue Hens errors in the fifth inning to push across two runs and run their record to 6-1 on the season.
Arico dominated from the start, giving up just two hits and one walk in seven innings of work. She also struck out two in gaining her third win (3-0) on the young season.
All of the scoring occurred in the 5th inning, as the Mountain Hawks took full advantage of
Lehigh went 4-1 over the course of the three day event, owing in large part to two complete game wins from Arico.
Coach Fran Troyan spoke to how well she pitched on the day. “Kate was in total control of all her pitches,” said Troyan. “She allowed the defense to play behind her, and they made no errors. Offensively, we didn’t get many opportunities out there, but we made the most of the ones we got.”
Lehigh returns to the field on Wednesday, March 3, as they open their home schedule with a doubleheader against Drexel at Kaufman Field. The first game is set for
