Annapolis, MD – The Mountain Hawks swimmers performed very well at the Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championships, setting numerous school records over the course of the three day event.  Overall, the women finished 5th at the championships, led by Linda Hendrixson’s two second place finishes and a third.  The men improved their standing one place in the last day of the events, finishing 4th overall.

On the third day, freshman Julie Mitchell had the highest finish of all the Mountain Hawks swimmers, taking second in the 200 back in a school-record time of 2:05.03. Caitlin Fiedler took fifth in the event, clocking in at 2:09.01. Hendrixson took her third top-five finish at the event, finishing fourth in the 200 breast in 2:23.75, her third straight school-record performance.

For the men, the breaststroke swimmers were once again all near the top of the standings for the second day in a row. In the 200 breast, Grant Flothmeier took third in a time of 2:05.94. Steve Greidanus was fourth in 2:07.26, and Jason O’Koren placed sixth in 2:08.17.  Ross Green also swam well for the third straight day, taking fourth in the 200 fly in 1:52.88.  Diver Pat Ryan placed fourth in the 3-meter event, finishing with 455.10 points.

Chris Caywood recorded his best finish of the event with a fifth place finish in the 1650 free, pulling in at 16:17.69.

Head Coach John Morrison said the teams performed well during the championships. “It was a challenging meet on both sides,” said Morrison. “Adding Navy to the mix on the men’s side makes it much tougher at the top.  We just came up short.  We certainly were at a disadvantage due to some injuries and illnesses, which really hurt our depth, but overall I thought we did well and I am proud of our teams.  We know we have work to do ahead.”

Bucknell repeated as the women’s champions, while the Naval Academy took home the crown on the men’s side in their first year of Patriot League competition.  Navy swept three of four individual honors, as Noah White was named Men’s Swimmer of the Meet, Aubra Thomas was the Women’s Swimmer, and Kevin Teague was Men’s Diver of the Meet.  Army’s Chelsea Haviland was honored as Women’s Diver.
