Bethlehem, PA – Recognition continues to pour in for Lehigh seniors Tom Alfsen and Adam Bergen.  Alfsen, a defensive end from Sparta, N.J., and Bergen, a tight end from Seaford, N.Y. were both named 2004 ECAC Division I-AA All-Stars on Tuesday.  Senior center Justin Terry garnered honorable mention accolades.

Alfsen returned from injury as a junior to put together quite a stellar senior campaign in 2004.  He led the team in tackles for a loss (11) and sacks (10), while ranking second on the squad in total tackles (59).  His ten sacks ranked fourth in the Patriot League.

Recently, Alfsen has also been recognized by the Walter Camp Football Foundation as an All-American defensive lineman, and he was also named to The Sports Network’s third team.

Bergen led the Mountain Hawks and was fourth in all of the Patriot League with 54 catches for 634 yards and eight touchdown receptions.  Bergen’s 54 receptions on the season were more than twice as many as the next two Lehigh receivers combined. The 6-5, 260-pounder also led all I-AA tight ends in both receptions and receiving yards.

The ECAC honor is fourth in the last two weeks for Bergen.  Last week, he was named to The Sports Network’s I-AA All-America first team, the Associated Press I-AA All-America first team, and the American Football Coaches Association of America (AFCA) Division I-AA Coaches’ All-America Team.

Bergen ends his Lehigh career with 149 catches for 1736 yards and 17 touchdown catches.  He will compete in the annual East-West Shrine Game in San Francisco on January 15, 2005.

Terry started all 12 games on the offensive line this season.  The versatile captain started on three different positions on the line, as an integral part of an offense that led the Patriot League in total offense, scoring offense, and passing offense.

The Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) is a governing body located in Centerville, Mass.  Among other responsibilities, the conference assigns officials for several sports, including Patriot League football.  All seven football-playing Patriot League institutions are ECAC members.

Lehigh captured a share of its league-best seventh Patriot League title with a 9-3 mark in 2004.  The Mountain Hawks have the highest winning percentage of any team in Division I-AA (83.33%) over the last seven seasons.
