Bethlehem, PA – With final exams complete Lehigh returned to the court for the first time in nearly two weeks and came away with a dramatic 82-79 overtime win over Binghamton Saturday night at Stabler Arena. The Mountain Hawks let a big first half lead slip away but battled back to earn the victory and improve to 5-2 on the season. Binghamton falls to 1-6.

The Mountain Hawks showed few signs of rust from the finals break as they shot a blistering 65 percent from the field in the first half including six of eight from beyond the three point arc. Lehigh lead by as many as 18 points in the opening half, before the Bearcats rallied to make it a 38-30 Mountain Hawk lead at the intermission. Sara Ellis led the first half charge with 11 points, including three three-pointers. Jessica DePalo added nine and senior Carli Toliver buried a pair of three pointers to finish the half with six points. Defensively the Mountain Hawks held Binghamton to just 8 of 27 shooting from the field.

Binghamton would rally to tie the game in the second half and would eventually take a two point lead. Lehigh was able to tie the game and then took a three point lead on a Mary Frances Hynoski lay-up and free throw. Rachel Laws would then tie the game with a three-point play of her own, and the game went to overtime deadlocked at 68.

In the extra session, Lehigh jumped ahead as Hynoski picked off a Jen Blues pass, drove the length of the court and layed the ball up and in to put the Mountain Hawks up two. Ellis iced the game with an 18-foot jumper from the top of the key and then two free throws with under a minute to play.

Ellis led the Lehigh attack with a career high 23 points. The Mountain Hawks shot 57 percent from the field on the night while holding the Bearcats to just 43 percent. DePalo added 22 points and Hynoski tied a career high with 16. Rachel Laws led the Binghamton with 24 points.

The Mountain Hawks return to the court Monday night when they host Farleigh Dickinson. Game time set for 7:00. Tickets for the contest can be purchased by calling (610) 7LU-GAME, on-line at lehighsports.com, or by visiting the Stabler Arena box office on game day.
