Men romp, women drop heartbreaker at Lafayette

Easton, PA – Kicking off a big weekend between rival schools the Lehigh swimming and diving team earned a split with Lafayette. The Mountain Hawk men were victorious 182-58, while the women fell in a heartbreaker 119-117. The women’s loss ended a string of two consecutive years that Lehigh swept Lafayette. The men extended their dominance over the Leopards winning for the 13th consecutive year. The women’s meet came down to the final event, with Lafayette pulling out a victory by the smallest of margins after winning the final women’s event, the 400-yard freestyle relay. The Mountain Hawks got strong performances from sophomore Betsy Balaguer and junior Linda Hendrixson who won two individual events apiece. With the loss the Lehigh women fell to 2-3 on the year. The Lehigh men improved to 4-0 on the year after handily defeating the Leopards. The Mountain Hawks won 10 of 13 events. Senior Ross Green picked up wins in the 200-yard IM and the 200 fly, while on the diving side senior Pat Ryan and freshman Clark Cohen finished 1-2 in both diving events.
