Bethlehem, PA – The Mountain Hawks hung tough with one of the nation’s top teams but ultimately fell 3-1 to #7 American Saturday afternoon at the Ulrich Sports Complex. With the loss the Mountain Hawks fall to 6-7 on the season, 0-2 in the Patriot League. American is 11-2, 3-0 in the Patriot League.

Lehigh surprised the Eagles by grabbing a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute as Mary Beth Kuenne tallied her fourth goal of the season off a penalty corner. Marissa Iannarone and Krista Jamieson were credited with assists.

American would tie the game four minutes later when Maggie Hall converted for the Eagles off a penalty corner. The Eagles would grab the lead at the 10 minute mark as Maureen Daniel scored to put American ahead for good. Denise Infante would add a goal for American in the second half.

“I thought we hung tough today,” said coach Julie Mazer. “It was a very good defensive team effort, considering they are the number seven team in the country.”

Jeanine Hoff started in the cage for the Mountain Hawks, making four saves. Meghan Gove played the second half, making three saves.

The Mountain Hawks return to the turf on Wednesday night when they welcome Drexel to the Ulrich Sports Complex. Game time set for 7:00.
