Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh used a total team effort highlighted by several fancy goals by juniors Jim Stevens and Adam Williamson to defeat Bucknell 3-0 at the Ulrich Sports Complex on Saturday evening.  Freshman Charlie Sales made his first Patriot League start and stopped five Bison shots on the night en route to the shutout.  With the win, Lehigh improves to 8-3-2, 2-1-1 in the league, while Bucknell falls to 4-7-1 overall and 2-2 in the league.

Lehigh got on the board first when Stevens took a nice lead pass from Williamson at the 24:11 mark and chipped it over the head of Bucknell goal keeper Adam Edwards to put the Mountain Hawks in front 1-0.  The game would remain that way through the first half and Lehigh took the 1-0 lead into halftime.

Williamson was rewarded for his assist on Steven’s goal when Stevens and Kyle Hartman found the junior from New Jersey at the 45:51 mark on a nice cross pass that Williamson sent into the back of the net for the 2-0 lead.

Stevens then put the icing on the cake at the 62:08 mark when he took the ball on a broken play after the Bucknell goal keeper came out to make a play, and the 6-7 Stevens slipped the ball in the goal.

Lehigh outshot the Bison 17-8 and had two corners to the Bison’s three.  Stevens and Joe Clemente led Lehigh with four shots, while for Bucknell three different players got off three shots.  Adam Edwards stopped eight shots in goal for Bucknell, while backup Joey Kuterbach sent back two Lehigh shots.

Head Coach Dean Koski was pleased to see his Mountain Hawks bounce back after a tough match versus Delaware on Wednesday.  “We had a good week of training and so I knew we were ready for this game.  Every Patriot League game is big for us and the guys stepped up for us tonight.”

Senior co-captain Elliot Leonard echoes Koski’s remarks.  “I got on the team after the Delaware and it had to be done.  But everyone responded well and stay very focused and hung in there.”  Leonard concluded, “This is a huge win for us, now we sit atop them in the league standings.”

Lehigh returns to action on next Saturday when the Mountain Hawks travel to Hamilton, New York for another key Patriot League showdown versus Colgate.  Game time is set for 7:00.
