Lehigh men and women tune up for Lafayette

Happy Valley, PA - Lehigh competed in the Penn State Invitational on Saturday afternoon as the teams get ready for their showdown with Lafayette next weekend. The men finished in 14th place, while the women came in 16th. Along the way, their were some solid performances to build on for the coming meet.
On the women's side, freshman Sara Seiler ran to a 19th place finish in the one mile run as she crossed the finish line in a time of 5:22.85. In the 800-meter run, sophomore Karen Welby came in 16th place, with a time of 2:20.10. Sophomore Katharine Hessler leaped to a ninth place finish in the high jump and junior Lindsay Hinsch finished in 11th place in the long juump.
In the men's competition, junior Lavar Pope sprinted to a fifth place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.95 and teammate, senior George Evans came in seventh with a time of 7.01. Sophomore Rob Hampson had a solid showing in the 3000 meter run as he crossed the line in a time of 8:39.31, good for 16th place overall. Senior Jesse Ohm soared to a sixth place finish in the pole vault as he cleared 4.50 meters and senior Francis Vincent strung together a pair of top-ten finishes in the long jump and triple jump. In the long jump, Vincent had a jump of 6.42 meters, placing him in tenth place and in the triple jump, he came in third place with a leap of 13.96 meters.
Other schools competing were Penn State, Cornell, Georgetown, Rutgers, LaSalle, Villanova, Seton Hall, St. Francis, Maryland, Howard, Mt. St. Mary's, St. Joseph's, Syracuse, MES and Bucknell. The Mountain Hawks return to action on Saturday when they host arch rival Lafayette from Rauch Fieldhouse. The meet is scheduled to get underway at 3:00.
