Mountain Hawks win third in a row

Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh won its third consecutive game as the Mountain Hawks defeated Drexel by a score of 2-0 on Wednesday at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Lehigh is now 6-1-1 on the season and Drexel falls to 4-4-1. The Mountain Hawks now have six shutouts on the season, and are well on their way to eclipsing the old mark of nine.
The first half was uneventful as both teams limited each others scoring opportunities. The Mountain Hawks were out shot by the Dragons 5-2 and the game was scoreless at the half. In the second half, Lehigh kept constant pressure on Drexel and at the 70:14 mark, senior Steve Fisher found the back of the net for the fourth time this season to give the Mountain Hawks the 1-0 lead. Junior Dustin Monahan and sophomore Adam Williamson assisted on the goal.
Monahan then scored a goal of his own from midfield with just two seconds remaining to seal the victory. Junior goalkeeper Sam Bishop picked up three saves in the contest en route to his sixth shutout. He has now given up only three goals on the season in 760 minutes of action.
Head coach Dean Koski liked the aggressive manner in which his team came out in the second half. "The first half was a little sketchy, they (Drexel) did a nice job of combining their opportunities to set up some shots and we just weren't aggressive enough." Koski continues, "The second half, we sorted ourselves out and did a much better job of applying pressure on both ends of the field, setting up several scoring chances. We were then able to capitalize on those chances with the goals we scored."
Lehigh returns to action on Saturday when the Mountain Hawks travel to Worcester, MA to take on Patriot League foe Holy Cross. Game time is set for 3:00.
