Mountain Hawks pick up first win of season

Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh (1-3) picked up its first win of the season with a 2-1 victory over West Chester at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Senior co-captain Blaire Goodwin scored both Mountain Hawk goals on the evening, and sophomore Meghan Gove picked up two saves along the way to secure the victory.
Goodwin’s first goal came at 9:03 of the first half off a feed from junior Sheila Clabby, giving Lehigh the 1-0 lead. The Golden Rams (0-4) then came back and tied the score at one after Caleen Owens scored off of a corner at 18:39 of the first half and that is how the game would remain until Goodwin struck again. Senior Kirsten Wyche fed Goodwin at the 43:28 mark for the game winning goal and the tough Mountain Hawk defense held on for the victory.
The win marked the first in head coach Julie Mazer’s young career, and was very significant in the fact that she was facing her alma mater. Mazer was very pleased with the effort her team showed and was happy to get the win. "Everyone on this team had a hand in this win," Mazer said, "Even the girls that didn’t see any time, played a huge role in the win for us." Mazer adds, "That was a good team we beat tonight. We stayed positive throughout, never gave up and were able to come away victorious."
Lehigh returns to action on Friday when the Mountain Hawks travel to Philadelphia to take on the Hawks of St. Joseph’s. Game time is slated for 7:00.
