Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh lost a hard fought battle to Rider 1-0 at the Ulrich Sports Complex on Wednesday evening. The Mountain Hawks played stingy defense all game long and out-shot the Broncs 6-5 in the second half, but it wasn’t enough. Sophomore Meghan Gove had another solid game in goal for Lehigh as she stopped three shots on the night.
Rider scored the game’s only goal when junior Maddy Boulden scored off of a rebound at the 17:13 mark of the first half. The Broncs out-shot the Mountain Hawks 12-10 for the game and had nine corner penalties compared to Lehigh’s seven. Sophomore Mary Beth Kuenne led the Mountain Hawks with three shots in the contest.
Coach Julie Mazer was pleased with the defensive effort for the game and likes the growth she continues to see from her team. "Our defense was very strong, we cleared the ball out of the defensive end repeatedly, and we continue to get better each game," Mazer said. "That was our goal at the beginning of the season, to improve each game, and I see that from this team." Mazer adds, "We had several good opportunities, and did not take advantage, but we will continue to improve and grow as a team."
Lehigh returns to action on September 10, when they travel south to take on West Chester. Game time is set for 4:00.
