Lehigh comes up short against UConn

Storrs, CT – Lehigh was defeated by UConn 2-0 Sunday afternoon in the UConn Field Hockey Classic. The two teams battled through a close first half until UConn (2-0) took a 1-0 lead with just under 7:00 minutes to go in the period, and it would stay that way until 18:36 remained in the game and the Huskies scored off of a penalty corner to set up the final 2-0 score.
Sophomore Meghan Gove got the start in goal for the Mountain Hawks (0-2) and had a very solid afternoon as she collected 12 saves along the way. Gove faced 34 shots on the afternoon and did a good job of helping keep Lehigh in the contest the whole way through.
"I was much happier with our defensive intensity that we displayed today", head coach Julie Mazer said after the game. "We came out mentally tougher and played very hard for the entire game. It was definitely a step in the right direction for our team."
Lehigh returns to action on Wednesday when they play host to Rider University from the Ulrich Sports Complex. Game time is set for 7:00 and fans can hear all the action live on Lehigh’s web site at www.lehigh.edu.
