Mountain Hawks reach .500

Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh reached .500 for the first time this season with a convincing 4-1 victory over Longwood on Sunday at the Ulrich Sports Complex.  The Mountain Hawks are now 5-5 on the season, while the Lancers fall to 4-8.
Lehigh got on the board early when senior Blaire Goodwin netted her sixth goal of the season off of an assist from junior Sheila Clabby just 34 seconds into the contest.  Goodwin then fed junior Dana Griffin for her second goal in as many games at the 9:31 mark and the Mountain Hawks were ahead 2-0.  With 18 minutes remaining in the half, Goodwin scored again, and the lead was 3-0.  Longwood managed to get on the board when freshman Jen Hawkins scored and the lead was two at halftime for Lehigh.
In the second half, sophomore Maureen Harrington scored her third goal of the season off an assist from senior Kirsten Wyche with five minutes remaining to seal the victory.  Junior Jeanine Hoff started the game in net for Lehigh and picked up four saves on the afternoon.  Sophomore Meghan Gove replaced Hoff at intermission, but was untested in her 35 minutes of action.
Head coach Julie Mazer was pleased to get to .500, but believes her team still has a long way to go.  “We had a strong start and we scored some good goals on the afternoon,” Mazer explains, “but I think we relaxed once we got the big lead and we can’t do that, especially once we get into our Patriot League schedule.”  Mazer adds, “We must continue to get better and improve and keep our intensity level up for the duration of the game.”
Lehigh returns to action on Saturday when the Mountain Hawks play host to Patriot League foe Bucknell.  Game time is set for 1:00 and can be heard live on Lehigh’s website.
