Lehigh falls to Bucknell

Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh was defeated on Saturday by Patriot League foe Bucknell 3-1 at the Ulrich Sports Complex. The loss drops the Mountain Hawks to 5-6 on the season, 0-2 in Patriot League play, while the Bison go to 7-1 on the year, 3-1 in league action.
Bucknell jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Kate Ruda scored off a rebound 15 minutes into the game. Kelly O’Brien then scored a goal with five minutes remaining in the half and the Bison grabbed a 2-0 halftime lead.
Lehigh trimmed the lead in half when senior Blaire Goodwin knocked in her eighth goal of the season at the 45:32 mark, and Lehigh had hopes of making a full come back. But Bucknell answered right back as Ruda knocked in her second goal of the game off an assist from Kirsten Nilsen seal the win.
Junior Jeanine Hoff and sophomore Meghan Gove split time in the cage for Lehigh, with Hoff stopping two shots on the day and Gove turning back one.
Head Coach Julie Mazer thought it was a good effort by her team, but would like to see the Mountain Hawks execute better. "Bucknell was a good team, they had very efficient corners and struck early. But we were composed and never gave up even when we were down." Mazer adds, "This was a better game over all than our Patriot League opener (against Colgate), but we didn’t score on an open play and must come through in situations like that in order to be successful."
Lehigh returns to action tomorrow when the Mountain Hawks welcome Cornell to the Ulrich Sports Complex. Game time is set for 1:00.
