Lehigh ends up .500 at home

Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh finished its home season with a solid 1-0 victory over Temple on Wednesday afternoon at the Ulrich Sports Complex.  With the victory, the Mountain Hawks finish .500 at home, going 5-5 on the season.  Lehigh is now 7-11 on the season, and the Owls fall to 10-9.

Both teams started off slow, with neither squad able to even get a shot on goal until midway through the first half.  The Mountain Hawks were then able to put together a nice offensive sequence, capped off by senior Blaire Goodwin netting her eleventh goal of the season off of a nice feed from Kelsey Smith.  The score would remain 1-0 as the teams retired for halftime.  Temple out shot Lehigh 5-3 in the first half, and had three corners compared to Lehigh’s one.  Junior Jeanine Hoff got the start in goal and picked up two saves in her 35 minutes of action.

The second half saw more of the same as both teams could not get into a rhythm offensively.  Temple goalie Erin Conroy kept the Owls in it, with her five saves on the afternoon, but that wasn’t enough as the pesky Lehigh defense stood up to the Owl charge.  Sophomore Meghan Gove replaced Hoff in the second half in goal, but was untested, as she did not register a save for the game.

Head Coach Julie Mazer was pleased to get the win and send her team into the season finale with some momentum.  “We needed this win today after struggling in the past several contests.  We got a great team effort, a solid defensive plan, and it paid off with a win.  This will send us up to Holy Cross on a high note and hopefully we can continue what we started today.”

Lehigh returns to action for its regular season finale on Saturday when the Mountain Hawks travel to Worcester, MA, to take on Patriot League foe, Holy Cross.  Game time is slated for 1:00.
