Fit to be tied - Mountain Hawks even up again

Bethlehem, PA – Same story, different night. In the midst of an improbable streak, Lehigh (7-1-7, 1-0-4) came away with the team’s fifth tie in a row Saturday night at the Ulrich Sports Complex, playing visiting Colgate (3-8-4, 1-3-1) to a 1-1 draw. The Mountain Hawks have now tied as many games as they have won on the season.

The game was delayed 20 minutes at the start after Colgate took a wrong turn on the interstate and arrived just minutes before kick-off. The lack of warm-up time did not affect the Raiders’ play, as they came out firing and scored just 10 minutes into the game.  Travis Rain dropped a header into the back of the net off a corner kick by Sean O’Sullivan. Later in the first half, Lehigh had a chance to tie as Steve Fisher was fouled inside the penalty box, but Colgate’s keeper Will Martin made a diving save to his right on the penalty kick by Doug Cusick.

The Mountain Hawks would eventually climb back into it in the second half, as Peter Classi found Brandon Smith for his first goal of the season at the 62:00 mark. Each team had chances the rest of the way, but no one was able to connect to break the tie.

Head coach Dean Koski continues to be befuddled by the team’s recent string. “We are just inconsistent,” said Koski. “We play well sometimes, and then we play like its still preseason. I give them points for coming back and getting back into it.  Our problem right now is we are making it harder on ourselves than it needs to be. We have got to find a way to change that.”

The Mountain Hawks continue their season this Wednesday as they travel to Penn State to take on the Nittany Lions.  Game time is set for 7:00.
